Polish Portland

In 2024 I worked with a Salon owner Victoria “Tory” Churchill and Interior Designer Tyler Karu on a brand identity and custom wallpaper for Tory’s new salon, “Polish” in Portland, Maine.

I was able to work on the logo and custom wallpaper design in collaboration with Tyler and her team as they chose materials and laid out the space. They would send me swatches and palettes, and I played with drawings and motifs that could tie everything together. We looked at various solutions, but everyone quickly agreed on the clear winner as soon as we found it. Anyone who's sat in a nail salon knows you sometimes just “stare and the wall” so we wanted to make sure the wallpaper wasn’t repeating and dizzying, but a calming mural with moments of discovery.

I don’t know if there is a better way to find unique design solutions than by working in tandem with trusted collaborators and leaving yourself time to “play.”
